Welcome to Provender, a much loved family beach house perched above the miles of pink and white sands of the private Windermere Island. Provender is the secret hideaway where Prince Charles and Lady Diana spent their honeymoon in 1981. Privacy and seclusion guaranteed, it is rare to see another person’s footprints in the 2 mile sandy beach in front of the house.
The house was designed as a simple “get-away-from-it-all” beach retreat for an English family who still retain ownership and visit regularly to enjoy its unfussy down-to-earth solitude. It nestles between the picture-perfect beach and the ecofriendly lush vegetation, with seagrape trees, aloes and sand lilies, where humming birds come to feed.
The striking airy living room has glass “picture window” sliding doors opening wide onto balconies and sun porches, bringing the outside in. No better beach and ocean view is to be found anywhere in the Bahamas. The Windermere Club, with tennis courts, small gym and heated swimming pool, is a five-minute walk from the house. Club membership is included with the rental.
The heart of the house is an open-plan living room and dining area, with a pretty Italian tiled floor throughout. Glass doors slide wide open onto balconies and a porch with sun loungers overlooking the beach. The sun porch at the back is a perfect place to barbecue your catch of the day! (Gas barbecue provided.) Steps lead down directly from the house to the beach. Ceiling fans and sea breezes ensure the air conditioners in every room are rarely needed. The kitchen is fully equipped. The five bedrooms can accommodate nine people, comprising two king bedrooms, two twinbedded rooms (which can be converted to kings), and one single-bed room. All bedrooms have a full en-suite bathroom. All bedrooms bar the single one have views of the beach. The sound of the sea will lull you to sleep at night.
The nearby Club at Windermere (five minutes walk) has a swimming pool, tennis courts, pickleball, TV room/library and a small gym available all year round, and a bar and restaurant open November to May.
As well as the spectacular Atlantic beach below the house, there is a more secluded beach cove three minutes away by car. Here in the sheltered sound between Windermere and the main island of Eleuthera, the warm shallow waters are ideal for small children.
Rock Sound, 15 minutes away, has the largest grocery store and a couple of restaurants, and Governors Harbour, the main town on the island, 25 minutes away, has some of the best restaurants.
Provender comes equipped with two kayaks, two paddle boards, and six bicycles. There is an outdoor shower for rinsing off the salt and sand after a day on the beach. Other amenities include air conditioning, broadband wifi, satellite TV, a gas barbecue and a generator. Four hours of housekeeping service six days a week (not Saturdays) is included in the rental. Local style cooks/chefs can be hired separately. It is sometimes possible to source a local yoga teacher or beauty therapist. Please ensure you book any extra housekeeping or other services you may require well in advance.
Windermere Island is for the exclusive use of the owners and renters of the small number of villas situated on it. It has long been the favoured destination of those seeking peace and privacy (the British Royal Family amongst them). Eleuthera itself is one of the outlying “family islands” of the Bahamas, famed for its unspoilt, uncrowded beaches with pink sand and clear turquoise waters. The pace of life is leisurely, guaranteed to be an antidote to the stresses of modern day living.
It’s a prime location for the sport of bone fishing and the exceptionally clear waters are perfect for snorkelling and scuba diving on the nearby reefs. The adjacent Harbour Island (ninety minutes by car and water taxi), popular with film and rock stars, is famed for its pretty colonial-style buildings – well worth a day’s visit

We absolutely loved the Provender house! The view was gorgeous. We were very pleased with the home overall. The staff were amazing. We would definitely go back. The only negative is that it's quite a drive away from most excursions or toursity stuff.
The house decor was good. The kitchen lacked some good sharp knives and we could have used a few more outside beach lounge chairs for the beach so everyone in our party had one to sit on. We had a wonderful stay at Provender! It's the perfect layout for 4 couples - everyone had their own bathroom attached to their bedroom. We had a few minor maintenance issues which Bobbett and William addressed immediately. Bobbett also cooked several meals for us which were delicious and very relaxing. Mahalia kept the house very clean. As other reviewers have stated, the house could use new beach chairs. We hope to go back!

My husband and I took our 5 granddaughters ages 8-16 to Eleuthera for a week the end of June, 2019. Provender is a lovely house but is dated, especially the kitchen. However, the housekeeper, Mahalia, keeps it spotlessly clean. The beach in back of the house is so beautiful and we felt safe letting the girls swim on their own. The property manager, Bobbett, was always available to us and even did grocery shopping before our arrival. Eleuthera is laid back, very casual island but is very expensive as all goods are imported. Windermere Island has seen better days. The club us run down looking but was not open when we were there. Queens Highway is the main north south road and most other roads to the various beaches are unpaved. Some rental car companies will not let you take a car off the paved roads so you will miss many beautiful beaches. Cars are very expensive and older. Our SUV was $120 a day, was about 10 years old, and had a burned out headlight. I spite of these few negatives, we loved Eleuthera and our stay in Provender. The people of the island are warm and friendly and always willing to help a tourist out and one cannot say enough about how beautiful the water is. The snorkeling left a little to be desired as there were not a many fish as we are used to seeing. Rent a boat for the day from Jody Prinder of Spanish Wells and swim with the pigs, feed the turtles, and visit sand dollar beach.

It does tend to look a bit neglected during the summer months when it's closed. I'm very sorry you paid $120 per day for an SUV. As I note in my materials and avdice, $80 to $90 per day is the usual price.

We had a wonderful time @ Provender. It is the perfect get away during the COVID crisis, complete utter isolation. We were spoiled by our caretaker Bobbett and her cooking. Real Bahamian style. The water temperatures are unbelievable and the beaches as described...best in the world. We had a few issues with the AC and internet was not available in all the rooms but we were accommodated with a range extender and that appeased the kids! We were contacted by the owner after we experienced and AC issue which I thought shows the dedication by the management team, they actually care. Would definitely pick this spot again once we visited all the other islands :)

Provender is a perfect place to spend a vacation on a private island off Eleuthera. It has everything you need to unwind and relax. Our Eleuthera vacation was absolutely amazing from beginning to end (I wish we had stayed for 2 weeks). Provender House was exactly how it was described including every amenity. The view from the balcony was absolutely breathtaking. We did not see another person on the beach and it was if we were on our own private island. The caretakers William and Bobbett checked in on us and Bobbett had a delicious meal waiting for us when we got there (per our request). Matt Simon and Tara from Eleuthera Vacation Rentals were so easy to work with. All of my emails were answered very promptly. Matt was a wealth of knowledge about the island which put our minds at ease as this was our first time visiting Eleuthera but it will not be our last! We even had the opportunity to meet Matt at his Buttonwood Reserve condo! We absolutely loved the island and visited many beautiful beaches from north to south. We had an amazing day with Donald of Eleuthera Tours in Cape Eleuthera. We found many beautiful shells, saw huge starfish, snorkled and also visited the Lighthouse beach which was just beautiful! The people of Eleuthera are so friendly and welcoming I would highly recommend visiting this island paradise and using Matt and Tara from Eleuthera Vacations. They really were a huge help from the booking process to suggesting car rentals, restaurants and places to see! I cannot wait to return!!

We had a wonderful week long stay in July 2018 at the Provender House on Windermere Island. The house is beautiful, clean, well kept up, and had ample space for our group of 7 adults. If you're looking for a place to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, this is definitely your destination as we rarely even saw other people on the beach. It was almost like we had the whole island to ourselves. Groceries were a short drive away at the Midway Cost Cutter and restaurants within 30 minutes are abundant. We felt very safe on all of Windermere and Eleuthera Island. If you read travel warnings about going to the Bahamas they are NOT talking about Eleuthera or Windermere Island. Last but not at all least, I highly recommend Matthew Simon and his crew at ! They were so very helpful in giving us pointers about the island and made sure our trip would be the success that it was.

The only reason I gave the general condition question 4 stars is that the property lacks beach umbrellas and enough beach chairs. We did ask about the umbrellas while were there but never got them.
The house is a perfect late 60’s time capsule and utterly charming. I would love to own it. Overall very satisfied.

Provender is a beautiful house in an excellent location. The beach is amazing and completely empty at most times. Windermere island is located well on Eleuthera and is excellent for many activities at the home- snorkeling,swimming, kayaking,paddle boarding, fishing, biking, walkining, and exploring. We had a group of 9 adults and the 5 bdrm/ 5 bath layout was perfect. The rental group was excellent and communicated well. The housekeeper did a great job. The caretakers maintain the property beautifully. We only used the club a couple of times but the pool was great. Highly recommend this property and hope to return!

Provender, is a wonderful house, and our experience was just so relaxing. The reviews I read seemed to be cut and past from previous guests.
Since this was my (our) first visit to Windermere, I relied on Bobbett to help me out, she is wonderful. Bobbett, we hired her to prepare breakfast and lunches every day. Both meals were perfect. We gave her an idea as to what we were wanted, and everything was cooked when we wanted to eat and exactly how it should be done. Bobbett gave me advise on car rental, club dinners, and local knowledge. Don't miss out on the Queens Bread. It is delicious, and makes great breakfast toast, and sandwich bread.
The house is a "beach" house, we had 4 adults, and many nights several guests over for dinner and drinks. The house has a wonderful view, easy access to the beautiful water, comfortable beach loungers, and plenty of room so you are not on top of each other. All the beds were comfortable, rooms were quiet, everynow and then the water pressure was a bit low, but low, but given the water is pumped in from miles a way its to be expected.

We loved the property, Bobbett, and her staff, and we will defiantly be back at Provender.
